PRESIDENT'S CORNER
It has been a great privilege to become part of The Governor's Prevention Partnership
in its 15th year of operation. So many people have contributed to the rich accomplishments
and success of the organization from the vision and commitment of Governor Bill
O'Neill, the stewardship of Denis Mullane, Oz Griebel, and John Klein, and the
dedicated efforts of Susan Patrick, who served the organization for 14 years before
retiring in February 2005.
When I think about the organization, the story of its founders, partners and
supporters, and its far-reaching effects on people and policies, the word "confluence"
comes to mind. For the past 15 years, we have had the good fortune to be the point
of intersection for many streams--communities, individuals, youth, prevention
professionals, law enforcement personnel, private and public sector leaders--all
dedicated to a common goal of improving the chances of success for Connecticut's
children and youth.
We have been a meeting point for the development of policies and programs that
address issues ranging from drugs in the workplace to steroids in schools... we
have convened and mobilized statewide task forces and local coalitions...we have
linked the resources of corporations with the needs of neighborhoods... we have
opened people's hearts to the power of "giving back."
Thousands of people across Connecticut connected to The Governor's Prevention
Partnership make a difference in the lives of children and youth every day. We
extend our deepest gratitude to them and everyone who dedicate their lives to
assuring that kids grow up safe, successful, and drug-free.
As we look toward the future, The Governor's Prevention Partnership will assume
an even greater leadership role, marshalling state-of-the-art knowledge, practical
tools, strategic partnerships and thousands of caring citizens towards one goal--creating
a better future for our communities, workplaces, families and, our most precious
assets, our youth.
We are thankful to all who supported us to our adolescence, and we invite your
continued partnership as we launch into a new era of strengthening Connecticut's
youth.
