MISSION & VISION
MISSION
Our mission is to keep Connecticut's youth safe, successful and drug free.
KEY MESSAGES
The majority of behavioral problems, including substance abuse and violence,
begin during adolescence. For this reason, national and state prevention efforts
are primarily targeted to youth and adults.
Prevention is based on factors that have significant influence on behavioral
development during youth:
Parents and families who effectively manage their children's behavior and communicate
with them about problems including alcohol and drugs;
A relationship with a mentor;
Schools and campuses that foster academic success;
Opportunities for young people to assume service and leadership roles;
Communities that create safe and drug-free environments; and
Media campaigns that positively influence attitudes and behaviors.
OUR VISION
Our vision is to provide prevention through partnership:
We will accomplish this by strengthening our capacity to marshal knowledge,
resources, and relationships with caring citizens working toward a common goal:
creating a better future for our youth, our communities, and our workplaces in
Connecticut.
We cannot achieve this in isolation and so we are dedicated to continuing our
current partnerships and starting new ones.
We will be active in the following areas to help youth develop into healthy,
safe, successful, and drug-free adults:
Learning: developing the intellect
Thriving: being physically healthy
Connecting: cultivating social and collaborative skills through positive peer and intergenerational
relationships
Working: developing vocational and practical skills
Leading: encouraging active civic involvement and service to others
