Business Leaders Gather to Receive Awards at Statewide Breakfast Ceremony

(Cromwell, CT ) --The Connecticut Mentoring Partnership's fifth annual Corporate Honor Roll Breakfast in Cromwell was the scene as more than 200 business leaders and educators from around the state recently gathered to be among those recognized as the Partnership's Corporate Honor Roll recipients. More than 90 Connecticut corporations and businesses that have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to youth mentoring were inducted into the Connecticut Mentoring Corporate Honor Roll.

The breakfast event featured Dr. Susan Weinberger as keynote speaker.  Weinberger, an author and international consultant on mentoring, is the founder and president of the MENTOR CONSULTING GROUP based in Norwalk, Connecticut.  Weinberger was a pioneer in designing and developing a one-on-one school-based mentoring program, the Norwalk Mentor Program, in the early 1980s and served as its director for 12 years. Her new book --released December 2005 - is titled Mentoring a Movement: My Personal Journey.  It is the story of Susan Weinberger ("Dr. Mentor") as she travels along mentoring's greatest milestones and encounters the unforgettable and dedicated people who helped nurture this powerful movement.
Special Recognition awards were presented to state Senate President Pro Tempore Donald E. Williams, Jr., Speaker of the House James A. Amann, Senator Toni Nathaniel Harp, Senator Christopher S. Murphy, Representative Denise Merrill, and Representative Jack Malone for their leadership roles in the Connecticut General Assembly for their investment in promoting mentoring in Connecticut.

National Mentoring Month

January is National Mentoring Month.  This month-long celebration of mentoring creates awareness of mentoring at the national, state and local level. It focuses on recruiting individuals to "share what they know" ... by becoming a mentor!  Helping to close our nations mentoring gap, we encourage all communities to engage in this celebration of helping establish the future success of all young people. We have created adaptable National Mentoring Month materials for your use: NMM Media Kit.
