ABOUT CCSUD
The Connecticut Coalition to Stop Underage Drinking is founded on five core values
that form the basis for all our work with adults, youth, and communities across
Connecticut.
HISTORY
The Connecticut Coalition to Stop Underage Drinking was created by The Governor's
Prevention Partnership in 1996 and was one of twelve State Coalitions funded through
a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to "Reduce Underage Drinking through
Coalitions. CCSUD has been able to sustain its efforts thanks to the funding
and support from the State of Connecticut Office of Policy and Management, the
Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, the Center for
Alcohol Marketing and Youth and a wide range of private contributions from businesses,
communities and individuals from across Connecticut.
MISSION
The mission of the Connecticut Coalition to Stop Underage Drinking (CCSUD) is
to stop underage alcohol use and its related social harms by bringing about long-term
change at the state and local levels.
FIVE CORE VALUES
1) Engaging both adults and youth in local communities is the key to preventing
underage drinking:
2) Helping youth and their families to prevent underage drinking is a joint responsibility of
individuals, community organizations, educational institutions, enforcement and
public leaders;
3) Local communities play a key and strategic role in preventing underage drinking;
4) Policy change at the local, state and national levels is essential to preventing
underage drinking;
5) An active, statewide coalition is important to lead and support communities,
organizations, government, and individuals to prevent underage drinking.
